Stupid Church Sign #2

I just have no idea what they were even trying to say with this

Well, since it the Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, I'd imagine that it's a statement on the ideology that we bring nothing to God to receive grace. That He provides everything.

But that's just me. I could be wrong. Lord knows, it isn't the first time and won't be the last.

I am a fan of churches who use their signs for this kind of communication. Why am I a fan? There's a fighting chance that the kind of church who would put up this kind of thing is also the kind of church that does not really welcome people not of their kind. So, the only people they are likely to attract are the people who would like it there.

It is warning sign to others: Go somewhere else. It's good and it's honest. People do not have to waste their time figuring out if this is the place for them - the sign gives them advance notice that it is not.

Fajita, if this theory of yours is true, then I say we rise up and visit all the places we are not wanted. Break the cycle, have a little fun, learn something about them, show them about us. That could be adventerous.

I see you're reading "Soul Survivor"! That's my favorite Yancey book. In fact, I quoted from it on my last post (1/16/05). Good stuff!

Jon, not a bad idea. However, I fear for my children (maybe too much). I have been about breaking the cycle my whole adult life and find the cycle can be cruel. Perhaps I am too pessimistic and overly critical. Perhaps? I know I am. I am wondering if there is more to the body of Christ than that. Maybe, on the other hand, my children need to see their parents breaking (fighting hopelessly against) the cycle.

The other fear I have is this: What if my kids learn to like the cycle? What if they are attracted to this kind of religion? That frightens me a great deal (again, probably too much).
